Qatar Airways flies PSG home to Paris on a special liveried Boeing 777: pictures

Qatar Airways had its brand all over the 2025 Champions League Final held in Munich on May 31, 2025. Not only did the Doha-based airline sponsor the shirts of both competing soccer teams involved, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), but it also sponsored the 2025 international tournament itself, However, the carrier had one last surprise up its sleeve.

On the morning of June 1, 2025, the carrier unveiled a special navy blue and white livery on one of its Boeing 777-300ERs that was subsequently used to transport the winning team, PSG, back to Paris the morning after the game, along with the trophy itself. PSG beat Inter Milan with a record-breaking winning margin of five goals to none during the 90-minute soccer match.

Featuring an eye-catching all-blue exterior with white titles, the Boeing 777-300ER registered A7-BED, originally flew from Doha to Haikou in China on May 7, 2025, to receive a full strip down and respray into the new scheme. The aircraft was then ferried back from Haikou to Doha on May 28, 2025, before positioning to Munich for the final.

Along with the full PSG squad, plus the club’s management team and the Champions League trophy itself, the aircraft flew from Munich-Jozef Straus Airport (MUC) to Paris-Charles de Gaulle on the afternoon of June 1, 2025, transporting the team to a victory celebration and parade that passed through the French capital city. The flight’s callsign was Qatar Airways flight number ‘5PSG’, reflecting the scale of the team’s victory against the opposition.

The special livery included a navy blue overall finish on the fuselage, although it retained the standard Qatar Airways grey and crimson colours on its rear fuselage. The airline’s titles appear in white on the forward fuselage in their normal position. Ahead of that, the Champions League logo featuring a soccer ball made up of stylized stars appears between the cockpit windows and the forward passenger door.

More about the PSG aircraft

The aircraft, having dropped off the PSG team back in their home city, then positioned empty back to Doha, where the plane remains at the time of writing. Its future in the special colours of PSG remains unclear, although having sent one of its aircraft to and from China for nearly four weeks to receive the special livery, the new colors will stick around and will be seen at airports worldwide for a while yet.

According to ch-aviation, the aircraft in question is 10.7 years old, having first been delivered to Qatar Airways new from Boeing on October 28, 2014. It is powered by a pair of General Electric GE90 turbofans and normally accommodates 354 passengers in a two-class layout (42 in business class and 312 in economy).

Speaking of the airline’s exclusive and multilevel sponsorship with the 2025 Champions League competition, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said: “Our triple partnership with UEFA, PSG, and Inter is a landmark moment for Qatar Airways. This final unites our values of ambition, precision, and global connectivity, with football as the unifying force. We are proud to deliver memorable journeys for fans while celebrating the spirit of the beautiful game.”

However, this all begs the question – if both teams in the final had not had navy and white as their predominant team colours, would Qatar Airways have painted another Boeing 777 in the other team’s colors in case it won the final instead? On this point, one can only speculate…
