Qatar Airways is set to announce it has secured a deal to buy 150 Boeing aircraft while US President Donald Trump is in Doha on May 14, 2025, as part of a Middle East tour.
The agreement was confirmed to NewsNation on May 13, 2025, by a source familiar with the matter.
Trump’s tour of the Middle East began on May 13, 2025, with his first stop in Saudi Arabia. At the time of writing on May 14, 2025, Trump is traveling from Saudi Arabia to Qatar for a state visit and dinner. The tour is expected to finish on May 14, 2025.
On May 6, 2025, Bloomberg reported that Qatar Airways is preparing to finalize a deal to buy around 100 widebody jets from Boeing, with an option for around 100 more.
However, Boeing wouldn’t confirm the deal with NewsNation when asked, and Qatar Airways did not respond to a request for comment on the announcement. A White House official told the publication that they won’t get ahead of any announcements from the president.
Additionally, while in Qatar, the US President is expected to receive a VIP Boeing 747-8 as a gift from the ruling Qatari royal family. This aircraft will serve as a temporary measure until the US government receives its own delayed 747-8s to replace the existing pair of Air Force One aircraft.
The move to use the gifted 747-8 from Qatar comes as Trump has repeatedly voiced his frustration with Boeing over the long delays and rising costs of the new Air Force One jets.
