Eurowings introduces new business class seats for medium-haul flights

Eurowings, the European budget arm of Germany’s Lufthansa, has released images of its latest cabin innovation in the form of a new seat akin to other airlines’ business class product. The new seats, which are intended to be rolled out on specific members of the carrier’s single-aisle fleet, will be seen across the Eurowings medium-haul routes later in 2025, initially on a trial basis. The airline states that the new seating offers “a level of comfort that is otherwise only seen on widebody jets.”

Announced on May 29, 2025, Eurowings revealed that it would be launching a completely new business class experience for longer medium-haul routes in autumn 2025. The new seat offering, to be branded as the ‘Premium BIZ’ seat, will be configured in a 2×2 layout in a new forward cabin on the carrier’s Airbus A320neo fleet. Supplied by the Italian seat manufacturer Geven, the new seats will each feature “adjustable backrests, ergonomic design, and generous upholstery, offering significantly more comfort and privacy than is usual in today’s medium-haul jets,” stated the airline.

With the new Premium BIZ, Eurowings becomes the first airline in Germany to offer premium seats in its smaller, narrowbody aircraft. The newly launched business class offering will begin appearing on Eurowings routes in November 2025, initially on the carrier’s non-stop Berlin to Dubai route, with the new seat offering bookable from August 2025.

With the introduction of the new Premium BIZ seat to supplement the airline’s existing business class product, Eurowings will now be offering several travel classes on its medium-haul routes. In addition to the Premium BIZ Seat (which will feature on eight rows per eight seats per aircraft), Eurowings passengers will also be able to travel in its existing business class product (where the middle seat of three is left vacant), and ‘SMART’ extra legroom seats as well as its basic economy product.

“With our new Premium BIZ seat, we offer business travellers and holidaymakers a completely new level of comfort on medium-haul flights,” said Jens Bischof, CEO of Eurowings. “More privacy and a significantly enhanced feel-good atmosphere make longer flights noticeably more pleasant. We are thus setting a new standard in our market segment and clearly positioning Eurowings as Europe’s leading value airline.”

The airline added that the market trials of the Premium BIZ product during the 2025/26 northern winter timetable onwards will also provide other airlines in the Lufthansa Group with important insights for the future configuration of new aircraft fleets.

Fleet renewal plans

Eurowings itself is currently preparing the most extensive fleet renewal in its history, following the airline’s placing an order for 40 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in January 2025. Lufthansa Group, which placed the order, highlighted the decision to allocate the aircraft to Eurowings as further proof of its “significant progress towards more sustainable flying” and said that the order equates to a $5 billion fleet investment. The new short and medium-haul jets will be reconfigured with a redesigned cabin for more comfort on board and space for up to 189 passengers.

“With 40 state-of-the-art aircraft, we are laying the foundations for a successful Eurowings future that is geared towards ambitious sustainability goals. The largest investment in our company’s history shows that we are making rapid progress towards low-emission flying – through significantly lower fuel consumption, lower emissions, and significantly less noise,” said Jens Bischof at the time the order was announced, the CEO of Eurowings.

Bischof added: “The high-cost efficiency of the new jets also enables us to continue to offer Eurowings customers fair and attractive fares. Without such a technological leap, an airline will hardly be able to operate successfully on the market in the 2030s.”
