Etihad Airways has posted a profit of $187 million (AED 685 million) in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 30% increase year-on-year, driven by “robust passenger demand and operational efficiencies.”
In a statement published on May 21, 2025, the airline described the results as a “record-breaking financial performance.”
Total revenue saw a 15% rise compared to Q1 2024, supported by both passenger and cargo business.
Etihad reported that it served five million passengers in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 16% increase compared to the previous year, and carried nearly 20 million passengers over the last 12 months.
The airline said that customer satisfaction also hit a record high in Q1 2025, with scores improving by 20% compared to the previous year. According to Etihad, gains were recorded in check-in, boarding, in-flight service, food and beverage, Wi-Fi, and the updated website and mobile app. The quarter also saw the introduction of a new lounge and in-flight menus.
“We’re executing a clear strategy: grow sustainably, operate efficiently, and never lose focus on delivering remarkable experiences to our guests,” said Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways.
Passenger revenue increased by 16% to $1.5 billion (AED 5.5 billion) due to “increased capacity, continued network expansion and increased flight frequencies.” Passenger growth was boosted by a 14% year-on-year rise in Available Seat Kilometres (ASK) and an improved passenger load factor of 87%.
Cargo revenue increased by 8% year-on-year due to improved cargo yield, despite a 4% drop in volumes. Etihad noted that strong operations led to a 32% rise in EBITDA, reaching $379 million (AED 1.4 billion) in Q1 2025. Net leverage decreased to 1.1x from 1.9x in March 2024, and cash flow from operations grew by 11% year-on-year to $500 million (AED 1.8 billion).
By the end of the quarter, Etihad’s fleet had grown to 98 aircraft, including the return to service of its sixth A380. In April 2025, the fleet expanded further with the addition of another A350-1000.
As of March 2025, Etihad said it served 80 destinations, with 16 new routes launching over the course of 2025.
